Outreach Activities

eBOSS results in Investigación y Ciencia
In 2020, the eBOSS collaboration published its final cosmological results (eBOSS Collaboration 2021). In collaboration with Héctor Gil-Marín and Santi Ávila, Andreu Font-Ribera explained the results in an outreach article in Investigación y Ciencia, the Spanish version of Scientific American. The original, unedited text, is also freely available online.

Improving the Prison Environment: HMP Brixton and the RAS
In 2018, the Royal Astronomical Society sponsored several outreach events to celebrate its 200th anniversary, including a collaboration with the Bounce Back Foundation to bring astronomy to one of the most marginalized groups: inmates of the HMP Brixton prison. RAS members Andreu Font-Ribera and Thomas Kitching (UCL) organized several talks about space exploration and the Universe, and collaborated with the artist Federica Ciotti in re-decorating the waiting area for visiting families.

Astronomers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Make the Most Precise Measurement Yet of the Expanding Universe
In 2014, Andreu Font-Ribera (LBNL) co-lead a press conference to present the most precise measurement yet of the expanding universe. Using data from the 11th data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Andreu and collaborators were able to measure, with a precision of 2%, the expansion rate of the Universe eleven billion years ago (Font-Ribera et al. 2014). The main image of the press release was an artist impression made in collaboration with artist Zosia Rostomian (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).
