Outreach Activities

Laura Casas gave an outreach talk about the DESI Cosmological results in the Granollers planetarium. The documentary “5000 Eyes - Mapping the Universe with DESI” was projected in the activity.

In March 2025, Martine Lokken submitted an entry for the ‘Dance your PhD’ contest representing, through dance, her PhD thesis on large-scale structure (University of Toronto, 2023). Laura Casas assisted with choreography and also danced in the video, while Dane Cross directed and filmed.

In February 2025, Martine Lokken and Laura Casas, as well as Dane Cross from another research group at IFAE, participated in the Bojos per la Física program, in which high school students from across Catalonia visit the IFAE center to explore different topics in physics.

In February 2025, Laura Casas and Martine Lokken presented for the ‘Cientifiques’ program at elementary schools in Institut Vilatzara, Vilassar de Mar, and El Segrià, Lleida, respectively. They shared an overview of how astronomers learn about the universe through the light from distant galaxies, and answered students’ questions about their daily lives as researchers.

On Monday 12th February 2024, Laura Cabayol gave an outreach public talk at the Centre Cívic Guinardó in Barcelona. The talk served as an introduction and presentation of the DESI documentary 5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI.

The Planetarium show ‘5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI’, a stunning documentary film featuring recent discoveries from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) will be projected in Cosmocaixa on the 29th of September for the 2023 Researcher’s Night in Barcelona

A stunning documentary film featuring recent discoveries from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) has been released to planetariums worldwide. A catalan version of this new documentary has been produced by the ERC COSMO-LYA project in collaboration with the UAB.
