With 5,000 tiny robots in a mountaintop telescope, researchers can look 11 billion years into the past. The light from far-flung objects in space is just now reaching the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), a project managed by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), enabling us to map our cosmos as it was in its youth and trace its growth to what we see today.

We have recently announced a job opportunity to join the COSMO-LYA team of IFAE in the Fall. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the data analysis of the Lyman alpha forest dataset of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument:

Martine Lokken has joined the the COSMO-LYA team as a postodoctoral researcher in the IFAE Observational Cosmology Group.

Laura Casas has joined the the COSMO-LYA team as a PhD student in the IFAE Observational Cosmology Group. Laura has a degree in mathematics by the Imperial College London and a Masters’ in Physics by the the The University of Edinburgh.

The universe is big, and it’s getting bigger. To study dark energy, the mysterious force behind the accelerating expansion of our universe, scientists are using the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) to map more than 40 million galaxies, quasars, and stars.

Jonás Chaves-Montero and Laura Cabayol have recently joined the COSMO-LYA team, and will work on the development of the theoretical models to interpret the data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI).

Andreu Font Ribera, researcher in the Observational Cosmology Group at IFAE, has been awarded the prestigious “Consolidator Grant” from the European Research Council (ERC). The project COSMO-LYA will allow Andreu and his team to use a large dataset of distant quasars to study some of the mysteries of our Universe: dark energy, inflation, and the mass of neutrinos.
