New members in the COSMO-LYA team
Jonás Chaves-Montero and Laura Cabayol have recently joined the COSMO-LYA team, and will work on the development of the theoretical models to interpret the data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI).
Jonás Chaves-Montero and Laura Cabayol have recently joined the COSMO-LYA team, and will work on the development of the theoretical models to interpret the data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). Using numerical simulations of the distribution of matter in the Universe, in combination with machine learning techniques, they will build a new framework to predict the statistics of the data that DESI will observe.
Jonás obtained his PhD at CEFCA in 2017, and before moving to IFAE in 2022 he was a postdoc at Argonne National Laboratory (2017-2020) and at the Donostia International Physics Center (2020-2022). His interests cover a broad range of topics in cosmology and astrophysics: galaxy-halo connection, cross-correlation of large-scale structure and cosmic microwave background, photometric redshifts, and active galactic nuclei.
Laura obtained her PhD at IFAE in 2022, and moved to our neighbouring institute Punt d’Informació Científica (PIC). During her PhD, Laura developed machine learning techniques for the analysis of astronomical datasets. Her thesis focused on the development of data reduction tools to obtain photometric redshifts and galaxy photometry from astronomical images.
Welcome Jonás and Laura!
